You touch the gate every single day. So we build it on a bigger, fully welded frame.

Made in our own factory · Molendinar, Queensland

Made for your gateway.
Filled the way you choose.

A PoolPerf® pool gate is made to measure for the opening it goes in, in the same factory as your fence. You choose what goes in the frame: plain PurePerf® you can see straight through, one of our 30 designs, or a picture of your own. Then you choose the colour, from over 100.

Whatever you choose, the gate is built the same way. A 40 x 40mm aluminium frame, welded at every corner, pre-treated against corrosion and powder coated (a baked-on colour finish) to Australian Standards. It leaves the factory fully assembled, with the PoolPerf® plate on its top rail.

Every gate comes with self-closing hinges and a magnetic latch, so it shuts and latches by itself, the way AS1926.1 (the Australian Standard for pool fencing) asks. Want it to close quietly too? Upgrade to Polaris® soft close hinges.

PurePerf® gates

A plain gate
you can see straight through.

PurePerf® is our plain panel, with nothing cut into it but the perforations. 63% of it is open, so from the deck you can see who is at the gate, and who is in the pool behind it.

In a PurePerf® fence, a PurePerf® gate simply carries the fence on. Same panel, same colour, same line. Only the hinges and the latch give it away.

The most popular way to do it

PurePerf® all the way round.
A design on the gate.

Keep the fence plain, so you can see the pool from everywhere. Then put a design on the gate, the one part of the fence everybody walks up to. It lifts the whole fence, and it is the easiest way to have a design without patterning every panel.

Gum leaves, a kookaburra, a turtle for a family who loves the beach: the gate is where people stop and look. Here are some of the gates our customers chose.

Custom size gates

Measured for your gateway.
Not cut from a stock size.

PoolPerf® is your SOLUTION - the sizes you need, the colour you want, the safety you deserve. Every gate is made to the opening it goes in, so it hangs square and closes against its latch the way it should.

  • Any width your opening needs, including extra wide gates for the mower or the pool cleaner
  • Any height, from 1200mm to match a standard pool fence, up to extra high gates made to order
  • On a slope? The top or the bottom of a gate can be made on an angle to follow the ground or a step
  • A gate on its own for an existing fence, like the Gum gate in the flat top fence on this page

How to measure
for a gate.

Measure from post to post at the bottom of the posts, tight. We make the gate 30mm narrower than that, to leave room for the hinges and the latch. So a 930mm opening gets a 900mm gate. Not sure? Send us a photo and the measurement and we will check it before anything is made.

“We required a custom specific sized gate and nothing was too hard for the team. Was delivered to us down in Victoria in perfect condition and is amazing quality.”

Match the fence.
Or make the gate stand out.

Most people order the gate in the same colour as the fence, so it reads as one clean line. Some choose a different colour for the gate, so it is the first thing you see. Either way, the gate is powder coated in the same factory, to the same standard, as the panels beside it.

What every gate is built on

A fully welded 40 x 40 frame.
Pre-treated, then powder coated.

A pool gate is opened, closed and leant on more than any other part of the fence, and it hangs from just two hinges. So it gets a bigger frame than our panels, and every corner is welded.

What is in a PoolPerf gateA PoolPerf gate drawn front on. A 40 by 40 millimetre hollow aluminium frame, welded at all four corners; 2.5mm perforated aluminium inside it, 63% open with every hole under 10mm; the PoolPerf plate on the top rail; self-closing hinges on one side and a magnetic latch on the other.PoolPerfWELDED AT ALL FOUR CORNERSso the frame cannot twist or dropTHE POOLPERF® PLATEmarked By Decoview® and AS1926.1MAGNETIC LATCHTop Pull or Side Pull40 x 40mm FRAMEhollow aluminium, all the way round2.5mm PERFORATED ALUMINIUM63% open, every hole under 10mmSELF-CLOSING HINGESTruClose®, or Polaris® soft closeEvery part pre-treated, then powder coated.THE FRAME, CUT THROUGH40mmx 40mm

  1. 40 x 40mm frame

A hollow square aluminium tube, 40mm by 40mm, all the way round. Bigger than the frame on our panels, because the gate does more of the work.

  2. Welded at every corner

The four sides are welded together, so the frame cannot twist or drop out of square. A gate that holds its shape keeps meeting its latch, day after day.

  3. Pre-treated

Before any colour goes on, the aluminium is pre-treated against corrosion, so the coating grips and stays put.

  4. Powder coated to Australian Standards

Dulux® and Interpon® powder coats, baked on in our factory. Textured finishes hide fingerprints and stand up to scratches.

  5. 2.5mm perforated aluminium

Marine-grade 5052 aluminium, 63% open, every hole under 10mm and its sharp edge rounded off. Nothing to climb, and smooth to the touch.

  6. Fully assembled

No slamming gates.
Polaris® soft close hinges.

Every pool gate has to shut by itself, and most of them bang. Polaris® soft close hinges still pull the gate shut from any position, then slow it down for the last part of the swing, so it closes quietly and the latch still catches. The boss shows you, in seven seconds.

Hinges and latches

Every gate shuts and latches itself.
You choose how.

A pool gate has to close and latch on its own, every time, from any position. Every PoolPerf® gate comes with the hardware to do that. These are the choices.

Hinges · with every gate

TruClose®
self-closing hinges

Spring-loaded hinges that pull the gate shut from any position. Set at least 900mm apart, so they cannot be used as a foothold.

Hinges · the upgrade

Polaris®
soft close hinges

Self-closing too, but the gate slows down before it meets the latch, so it closes quietly instead of slamming. Works with either latch. Watch it.

Latch · Top Pull

MagnaLatch®
magnetic latch

A magnetic latch with its release on top of the post, at least 1500mm from the ground, out of a small child's reach.

Latch · Side Pull

Magnetic latch
and gate stop

The release sits on the pool side, 200mm down from the top of the gate, and the gate stop cushions the close. For Channel Fit fences (panels held in channels fixed to the posts).

Hinges and latches are covered by their makers' own warranties. The gate itself carries our 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects; the conditions are on our product care page.

What the rules ask of a pool gate

A pool fence is only as safe
as its gate.

Every Australian pool gate has to do the same few things. Here they are in plain words, with how a PoolPerf® gate meets each one.

The ruleA PoolPerf® gate
It must not open towards the poolHung to swing out, away from the water. Your installer sets the swing on site.
It must close and latch by itself, from any open positionSelf-closing hinges and a magnetic latch come with every gate.
The latch release must be out of a child's reachTop Pull: the release is at least 1500mm from the ground. Side Pull: it is on the pool side, 200mm down from the top of the gate.
No gaps over 10mm near the latchEvery hole in a PoolPerf® gate is under 10mm.
The hinges must not make a footholdHinges at least 900mm apart (top of the lower hinge to the top of the upper one), or a 60-degree safety cap on the lower hinge.
Keep it shutNever prop a pool gate open. Check it every week: open it to any position, let go, and make sure it closes and latches.

Source: Queensland Building and Construction Commission, Gates, latches and hinges, and AS1926.1. The rules are set state by state, and whether your whole pool area passes also depends on how the fence is installed, so your installer or certifier checks it on site.

Replacing a gate

Replacing a glass gate?
We will make one to fit.

Kat had to replace her pool gate. She chose a PoolPerf® gate in the Pandanus design, and added a panel at the same time to finish the area off. In her own words, from her Google review:

“We needed to replace our pool gate after the existing glass gate fell from the pivot, smashing and injuring my child. We will never go back to a glass gate again. This was the perfect solution for us.”

Questions

Pool gates,
your questions answered.

Quick answers

What size pool gate do I need?

Every PoolPerf® gate is made to measure. Measure from post to post at the bottom of the posts, tight, and we make the gate 30mm narrower to leave room for the hinges and the latch. So a 930mm opening gets a 900mm gate. Most pool gates are 1200mm high to match a 1200mm pool fence, and taller gates are made to order. How to measure.

Can I have a plain PurePerf® fence with a design on the gate?

Yes, and it is the most popular way to do it. The fence stays plain so you can see the pool from everywhere, and the gate, the part everybody walks up to, carries the design. Any of our 30 designs, or one of your own. See some.

Can you put my own design on a pool gate?

Yes. Send us a photo, a sketch or a few words. We draw it up and send you a proof to approve, and nothing is cut until you say so. Every custom design is checked against AS1926.1, the Australian Standard for pool fencing, before it goes to the factory.

What hinges and latch come with a PoolPerf® gate?

Every gate comes with TruClose® self-closing hinges and a MagnaLatch® magnetic latch, so it shuts and latches by itself. The Top Pull latch has its release on top of the post, at least 1500mm from the ground. The Side Pull latch has its release on the pool side, 200mm down from the top of the gate, with a gate stop, and suits Channel Fit fences. You can upgrade the hinges to Polaris® soft close.

Does a PoolPerf® gate meet AS1926.1?

Yes. Every PoolPerf gate is made to AS1926.1, the Australian Standard for pool fencing, and carries the PoolPerf plate marked AS1926.1. Whether your whole pool area passes also depends on how the fence and gate are installed, such as the way the gate swings, the latch height and the clear area around the fence, so your installer or certifier checks it on site.

Can the gate be a different colour from the fence?

Yes. Most people match the gate to the fence, but you can choose any of over 100 powder coat colours for the gate, so it stands out as a feature. Light colours make a design on the gate easier to see; dark colours let you see through it.

More detail

What are Polaris soft close hinges?

Polaris soft close hinges are an upgrade for any PoolPerf pool gate, with either the Top Pull or the Side Pull latch. Like every pool gate hinge they pull the gate shut by themselves from any position, but they slow it down for the last part of the swing, so it closes quietly and still latches instead of slamming. They are stainless steel and the closing speed can be adjusted.

Why is a PoolPerf® gate frame 40 x 40 and welded?

A gate is opened, closed and leant on more than any other part of the fence, and it hangs from just two hinges. So it is built on a 40mm by 40mm hollow aluminium frame, bigger than the frame on our panels, with every corner welded. A welded frame cannot twist or drop out of square, so the gate keeps meeting its latch.

Will my pool gate sag?

The welded frame holds its shape, so the gate itself does not sag. What a gate needs is a solid hinge post, set straight and firm, which your installer takes care of. Check every week that the gate still closes and latches on its own from any open position.

How is a PoolPerf® gate finished?

The aluminium is pre-treated against corrosion first, so the coating grips, then powder coated (a baked-on colour finish) with Dulux or Interpon powder coats to Australian Standards, in our own factory in Queensland.

Can I replace an old or broken glass pool gate with a PoolPerf® gate?

Yes. Tell us the size of the opening and what is either side of it, and we will make a PoolPerf gate to suit. It is made to measure, in the colour and design you choose.

Which way should a pool gate open?

Away from the pool. A pool gate must not open towards the pool, and it has to close and latch by itself from any open position. Your installer hangs a PoolPerf gate to swing out, away from the water.

How do I know it is a genuine PoolPerf® gate?

Look for the PoolPerf® plate on the top rail, marked By Decoview® and AS1926.1. A PoolPerf® gate also arrives fully assembled and welded, and a textured colour is textured on the frame as well as the panel. If it is not badged, it is not ours. Five questions to ask your installer.

Do you make extra wide or extra high pool gates?

Yes. Every gate is made to measure, so extra wide gates (for a mower or pool equipment) and extra high gates are made to order, and the top or the bottom can be made on an angle to follow a slope.

How much does a PoolPerf® pool gate cost?

It depends on the size, the colour, the design, and the hinges and latch you choose, so we quote each gate for its gateway. Send us the width of the opening and a photo, and we will come back to you. Get a gate quote.

Can I see a PoolPerf® gate before I buy?

Yes. There are 12 display centres around Australia, including our own Gold Coast showroom with gates on their hinges, so you can open and close one yourself.

How do I look after my pool gate?

Give it a rinse with the hose every 3 to 6 months, or every 4 to 8 weeks near the coast, and keep the area around the latch clear. Once a week, open the gate to any position and let go, to check it closes and latches by itself. More on our product care page.
