PoolPerf® · Inspiration and ideas
Glass. Flat top fencing. Walls, timber and decks. PoolPerf® works with all of them, and makes them look better.
Why mix at all
Every pool area has a side you look through every day, usually the one between the house and the pool. It has a side along the lawn, where the mower and the line trimmer go. It often has a boundary on the neighbour's side. And plenty of them have a deck or a step that needs a balustrade (the rail that stops someone falling off it) as well as a fence.
Those are different jobs, and they do not all need the same answer. This page shows what PoolPerf® can be paired with, which is almost anything, using real jobs and real photos. Put PoolPerf® beside another material and both of them look better.

“We are so happy with our Decoview pool fence. It sets off the pool area perfectly and provides a decorative screen from the back yard.”Terry Kruger · verified customer
Before you choose anything
The first job is safety. A pool fence has to keep children away from the water, and it has to meet the Australian Standard (AS1926.1) to be allowed to do that. The second job is that you have to look at it. In most backyards the pool fence is the biggest single thing in view. Mixing materials is how you get both jobs done well: you put each material where it does its best work.
There is usually only one: the side you see from the kitchen, from the deck, or from the chair you always sit in. Put the clearest thing you can afford on that side.
The lawn side, where the mower and the line trimmer go. The side the sprinklers reach. The side that gets the afternoon sun. PoolPerf® handles all of that without marking, streaking or needing a wash.
Behind the shed, or the run along the back fence. Plain flat top fencing (the kind made of upright bars) is perfectly good there, and what you save on it pays for a better looking fence where it counts.
A sheet of marine-grade aluminium with small holes punched through it, held in a strong frame. 63% of each panel is open space, so air, light and your view all pass straight through. The holes are under 10mm across, every edge is sanded smooth, and the textured powder coat (a baked-on colour finish) hides fingerprints instead of showing them.
A plain panel, with nothing cut into it, is called PurePerf®. A panel with a pattern cut into it is a design panel. Both do the same safety job, and every PoolPerf® panel meets the Australian Standard for pool fencing on its own. Putting it next to glass or flat top fencing does not change that. It only changes what you look at.

Combination 1 · Glass and PoolPerf®
This is the combination we make most often, and customers usually work it out for themselves. The glass goes on the side between the house and the pool, where you sit and look through the fence every day. PoolPerf® goes along the lawn, down the boundary and out where the garden is.
It works because you can see through both. A PurePerf® panel looks like an even dark screen that your eye passes straight through, so where it meets glass there is no jarring change. And those three sides are the ones that get used. Line trimmers, sprinklers and wet towels do not mark powder coated aluminium, and none of it has to be cleaned off on a Sunday morning.
Glass where you sit. PoolPerf® where you mow.
Six yards where glass meets PoolPerf®

The owners wanted to look straight out at the rainforest that runs up to their back fence. This job also had something new: mirror finish stainless steel posts between the panels instead of the usual black ones. It is a small change, and it looks terrific.
Frameless glass along one side, and PoolPerf® along the rest, held in a channel top and bottom instead of sitting in a frame. Mostly plain PurePerf®, with a couple of patterned Gum Perf panels to finish it off.
Fact
Glass can shatter. PoolPerf® won't.
Toughened glass can occasionally break on its own, without being hit, because of a tiny flaw formed when it was made (a nickel sulfide inclusion). Perforated aluminium does not shatter. Read about the glass alternative.
Some of the best combination jobs we know of were installed by glass fencing companies: New Era Glass, Tough As Glass, Vision Fencing & Glass, and Mid Coast Glass Fencing. When the people who fit glass for a living choose to put PoolPerf® beside it, that is worth knowing.
“Because we didn't want to have to deal with the endless cleaning of our existing glass pool fence we were looking for a low maintenance product that would not dominate the view and make the area appear smaller.” Mark and Andrea · verified customers
Combination 2 · Flat top and PoolPerf®
Most pools have a side everybody sees, and a side that runs behind the shed. Treating both the same way costs you one way or the other. Put the good looking fence where people look, and plain flat top fencing where they do not.
Both come in the same textured black, at the same height, on the same line. Standing at the water, the change from one to the other barely registers. It looks like one fence with a feature section, not two fences that met in the middle.
Flat top where nobody notices it. PoolPerf® where everybody does.

Combination 3 · Everything else
Stop thinking of PoolPerf® as only a pool fence, and start thinking of it as a strong panel that lets light and air through. The list of uses gets long. Every one of these is a real job.

Your fence or wall is already there. It is just not tall enough, either for the pool rules or for privacy. Panels along the top add the height without making it solid, heavy or dark.

A stone, brick, rendered or block wall that needs another 300mm or 400mm. PoolPerf® sits on top and adds the height without turning the yard into a courtyard.

Black PoolPerf® beside black timber slats. At Lockwood South in Victoria, one angled panel even ran a Gum design straight into plain PurePerf®.

Mirror finish stainless steel posts between the panels. It was a first for us. Now it is something we would happily suggest.

At Gelorup in Western Australia, Woodland Grey panels were set between black posts. A quiet contrast that looks planned, not accidental.

The most popular mix of all. Plain PurePerf® along the long runs so you can see through, then one patterned panel or gate as the feature.

Green grass against a black fence is a sharp combination, and it makes the pattern in the panel much easier to see.

The holes are under 10mm, so a paw cannot get through. Every edge is smooth for a nose pressed against it, and there is no rail for a cat to climb.

Ordinary panels have to be stepped down a slope, which leaves gaps underneath. We make raked panels instead, cut on an angle to follow the ground.

Pool pumps, air conditioners, water tanks and bins. We can make the gate extra wide so you can still get in, and the air still moves.

Property boundaries, roadways, waterways and vegetable gardens. One golf course boundary went from rusted steel to a fence the town talks about.

Panels are made up to 3 metres long, so a wide gap does not have to become a row of posts. Fewer posts, a cleaner line, less to look at.
Every panel is made to your measurements, so slopes, steps, walls and odd angles are ordinary work. This 26 second film shows a few of them.
“Very happy with the finished panels. This finished off our pool fence on a retaining wall.” Jason Comans · verified customer

Designs and colours
Mixing does not have to mean two materials. It can be plain panels and patterned panels, one colour and another, or a scene drawn for one family. This white fence in Western Australia carries whales, turtles and manta rays. Unlimited designs, only limited by your imagination.
“Have had my custom design sea theme fence up for a few months now and it looks amazing. Throughout the day it changes in the light and you get to appreciate every panel in different shades.” Vanessa Giltrow · verified customer

Decks, balconies and pools
A deck sits above a drop, right beside the pool. The edge of the deck needs a balustrade. The pool needs a fence. The steps down need something as well. Most projects solve that with two systems from two suppliers, and the look changes three times on the way around the yard.
PoolPerf® Perforated Balustrading is one panel that covers all of it. Once a deck is more than a metre off the ground, the rules ask for a balustrade at least 1000mm high. We make this one 1200mm high, the height a pool fence has to be, so the deck edge, the steps and the pool fence can all be the same panel in the same colour.

“Changed 3glass balustrades on deck to see what they looked like, now the other 5 will be changed to suit very unique look.” Kevin McNulty · verified customer
PerfSafe® · play areas and childcare
PerfSafe® is the same aluminium panel, made for the places that look after other people's children: play centres, childcare centres, kindergartens, school and council playgrounds, and the play areas at pubs, clubs and gyms. Tough As Glass installed one around the children's play area at the Swansea Hotel, working with Club Projects Newcastle.
One sheet, with no rails and no footholds. There is nothing for a child to get a toe on.
Staff can watch the whole area at once, so nothing happens out of sight of an adult.
The holes are sized so small fingers do not get caught, and there are no gaps to squeeze through.
The same panel can be the play area fence, the pool fence and the balustrade.
Where you will find it

Children's safety is not a place to cut corners. It is also no reason for a fence that looks like a compound.
How it comes together
None of the jobs on this page arrived fully formed. Nearly all of them started with somebody standing in a backyard, pointing, and saying “glass along there, and something nicer down the side”. We turn that into a proper drawing, so that what comes off the truck is what you had in mind.
A sketch, a photo of the pool area, a house plan, or a chat over the fence. Rough is fine. Rough is normal.
Our PoolPerf® specialists put it on paper properly: every panel sized, every gate placed, every combination shown, before anything is cut.
Engineered, designed, perforated, powder coated and assembled right here in Queensland. Every gate carries the PoolPerf® plate.

Questions
Yes, and it is the combination we make most often. Glass usually goes on the side between the house and the pool, and PoolPerf goes along the lawn, the boundary and the garden. Both are see-through, so the change from one to the other is easy on the eye.
Yes, as long as every part of it meets the rules. Every PoolPerf panel meets AS1926.1, the Australian Standard for pool fencing, on its own. Heights, gaps, gates and the clear zone around the fence still have to be right along the whole length, which your installer checks.
It sits beside one very comfortably. Both come in the same textured black, at the same height and on the same line, so it looks like one fence with a feature section rather than two fences.
Yes. Panels can sit on top of a stone, brick, rendered or block wall, or along the top of an existing fence, to add height for the pool rules or for privacy without making it solid or dark. Send us a photo and we will tell you what would work.
Yes. PoolPerf® Perforated Balustrading is made 1200mm high. That is over the 1000mm a balustrade needs once a deck is more than a metre off the ground, and it is the height a pool fence needs, so the same panel can do both jobs. See the pool balustrade.
It can be. Plain flat top fencing on the sides nobody looks at, and PoolPerf where people do, puts the money where it is seen. Plain PurePerf panels with one patterned panel or gate as the feature also costs less than patterning the whole fence.
Black is the most popular, because it is the hardest to see and it sits quietly beside glass. Monument and Woodland Grey are softer. There are over 100 colours, so you can also match the posts, the house trim or an existing fence.
Yes. It is the most popular mix of all: plain PurePerf® along the long runs so you can see through, then one patterned panel or a patterned gate as the feature. See every design.
Yes. Panels and posts can be powder coated in different colours, and one job used mirror finish stainless steel posts between black panels.
We make raked panels, cut on an angle to follow the slope, so the bottom of the fence stays close to the ground instead of leaving stepped gaps underneath.
The holes are under 10mm, so a paw cannot get through, every edge is sanded smooth, and there is no horizontal rail for a cat to climb.

No. Some people keep the glass on the house side and replace the rest, and some replace it all. Either way, send us a photo and we will tell you what we would do.
